Education & Training Program
The Education & Training program seeks to catalyze the creation
of a new generation of "transboundary waters champions"
with management skills embracing equity, sustainability, and consensus.
The program offers interdisciplinary, team-taught courses from a specialized
Transboundary Waters Curriculum Series for post-graduates and professionals,
to complement existing water education and training opportunities.
The value-added characteristics of our education and training program
include:
Flexible, adaptable curriculum series: The Transboundary Waters
Curriculum Series draws from four interdisciplinary course modules:
Water & Society; Water & Economics; Water & Ecosystems;
and Water & Governance. Together the modules provide integrated,
in-depth education on the management of shared water resources. To
meet the needs of different audiences, both standardized and on-demand
course combinations of varied duration are offered.
Innovative courses: Coursework
allows students to identify and track drivers of conflict and cooperation
within different cultural and spatial settings, and includes key transboundary
elements not normally covered in water resources education, such as
diplomacy, conflict prevention and resolution, and water law.
Case-based interactive learning:
Courses are team-taught by faculty from Partnership institutions,
drawing on material from their cutting-edge transboundary research.
Participants are provided with current, applied information, and called
upon to contribute to global dialogue through class discussions and
project assignments.
International & multidisciplinary learning environment: Cross-sectoral and cross-cultural communication are built into the
Education & Training program, as both faculty and participants
represent different nationalities, disciplines, and professional
backgrounds. By drawing students from around the world, the education
and training program contributes to community-building for networks
of expertise, as well as capacity-building in specific regions.
